Marketo

Connect Marketo so Breakout can work with Marketo leads, programs, lists, and marketing automation data used by workflows.

Prerequisites

Ask a Marketo administrator for integration credentials with the permissions required by your workflows.

Most teams use a Marketo API-only user and a LaunchPoint service. Information you typically need to set this up include the following:

Field

Description

Client ID

Client ID from the Marketo service

Client Secret

Client secret from the Marketo service

Instance URL

REST endpoint or instance URL for your Marketo instance, such as https://account.mktorest.com

Permissions

Marketo does not use OAuth scope strings for this connection. Access is controlled through the following:

  • API-only user's role and permissions in Marketo

  • LaunchPoint service associated with the Client ID and Client Secret

  • Marketo instance URL entered in Breakout

Setting up Marketo authentication

  1. In Marketo, create or choose an API-only user for Breakout.

  2. Assign a role with the minimum permissions required for the workflows you plan to run.

  3. Create a LaunchPoint custom service for that API-only user.

  4. Copy the service Client ID and Client Secret.

  5. Copy the Marketo REST endpoint or instance URL.

  6. In Breakout, go to Settings > Integrations > Marketo.

  7. Paste the Instance URL, Client ID, and Client Secret.

  8. Click Connect.

Use only HTTPS URLs for the Marketo endpoint. Do not paste the full identity token URL unless the form specifically asks for it.

Return to Breakout and wait for the Marketo integration to show as Connected. It may take a few minutes for the status to update on the Integrations page.

  • If the Marketo approval window closes but the integration still doesn't show as connected, refresh the Integrations page.

  • If Marketo still appears as Disconnected, reconnect the integration and make sure you complete the Marketo approval process successfully.

Verifying the connection

The Marketo card should show as connected. Test with a workflow that reads a safe Marketo object, list, or lead record.

If the connection succeeds but workflows fail, verify that the Marketo API-only user has permission for the requested objects and that the instance URL points to the correct Marketo subscription.

Disconnecting or reconnecting Marketo

Disconnect in the following cases:

  • Before rotating the Marketo client secret

  • Switching to a different Marketo instance

Reconnect to Marketo using the correct credentials.
